Adopt a Lion

Sadly, wild lion populations face the risk of extinction from numerous threats including habitat loss due to encroachment by humans – farmers resort to poison, guns and snares to drive lions from their land.

Trophy hunting and keeping lions in captivity are further issues that threaten to push populations towards extinction. We need to act now to stop this decline.

Adopt a Lion today

Sadly, lions like King can fall victim to the exotic pet trade, or be subject to exploitation in zoos, circuses and other captive facilities.
Born Free works to rescue lions like King, and provide lifetime care in spacious, natural, sanctuary homes – but we couldn’t do it without your support.

Adopting a lion helps to support Born Free’s work to rescue lions from exploitation in captivity, and provide forever homes in spacious sanctuary surroundings, for those who are unable to live a life in the wild.

King lives at our Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary at Shamwari Private Game Reserve, where he will receive the care he deserves for the rest of his life.

You can choose either a physical adoption pack, which you will receive in the post and comes with an optional soft toy. Alternatively, you can opt for a digital adoption pack where 33% more of your adoption fee can go towards our vital work (compared to a physical adoption), and this would be received via email. Both types of adoption pack feature a personalised adoption certificate.

Help care for lions with an animal adoption, and you’ll receive your exclusive adoption pack containing…
