Adopt A Brown Bear

Brown bears have suffered at the hands of humans over the years in the name of entertainment, being kept in captivity in zoos and used as performing circus attractions and ‘dancing bears’.

Whilst wild population numbers aren’t of immediate concern overall, some sub-populations of brown bear are critically endangered from threats such as habitat loss and hunting according to the IUCN’s Red List.

WHY ADOPT A BROWN BEAR?

Adopting a brown bear helps Born Free to support the vital rescue and rehabilitation work of sanctuaries in Russia, so they can save the lives of orphaned brown bears. The Orphan Bear Rescue Centre in Russia rescues brown bear cubs at only days old and often in a critical condition. During their first days, they must receive 24-hour care, be fed every two hours and given veterinary treatment if needed.

The team then cares for the orphan cubs until they are around 8-10 months old and can be released back into the wild, as close as possible to where they were found. They are then monitored to see how they are adapting to life in the wild.
