The wild animals you love are being ruthlessly targeted by poachers
Born Free is working around the world, protecting animals from cruel and indiscriminate poachers.
Our team in Kenya found two lions within a matter of weeks – an 18-month male and 10-year-old male – who were caught in life-threatening snares, set by poachers in Meru National Park, Kenya. Imagine their distress. As they struggle, the deadly wire noose gets tighter and tighter, causing terrible injuries and ultimately a lingering death. Thankfully, with our help, both were rescued.
Many animals aren’t so lucky.
Your favourite wild animals are being targeted by well-equipped poachers, often run by criminal networks, and fuelled by a voracious demand – poaching is big business.
Elephants are brutally killed for tusks, tigers slain for fur and bones, giraffes slowly strangled by wire snares, pangolins boiled alive for scales and meat, mighty rhinos slaughtered for their horns, and gentle gorillas shot for ‘bushmeat’.

Dame Virginia McKenna, Born Free Co-Founder“The wild should be full of life. But poaching turns beauty into brutality. Pain into profit. A life reduced to parts. And poaching steals more than one animal. It steals futures. It tears through families. It silences the wild. What disappears is more than wildlife. The balance of the natural world goes with it. But poaching can be prevented. With protection. With persistence. With action. With your help, Born Free can protect wild lives.”
