Labour promised to ban hunting trophy imports. Yet two years on they have failed to deliver and that promise remains unfulfilled.  Wild animals are still being killed for so-called “sport”, and British trophy hunters continue to bring home their bodies and body parts as trophies.

Since they took office in 2024, the current UK government has issued at least 33 permits enabling British trophy hunters to bring their trophies home from their hunting trips – including body parts from threatened species such as lions, leopards, elephants and giraffes.

Every permit is not just a piece of paper, it represents a life cut short, an animal reduced to a prize and a manifesto promise left undelivered.

Dr Mark Jones, Head of Policy at Born Free, says: “The British public has waited long enough.  The promised ban is overwhelmingly supported across the nation, and carries broad cross-party support.  Other European countries have already introduced it.  So, what are the UK government waiting for?  How many more wild animals have to die before action will be taken?  They should not have to pay the price of political inaction.”

A wild animal is not a prize.  A life is not a trophy.  A body part is not a holiday souvenir.

Labour must honour its promise.

Together we can secure the long-promised ban on trophy hunting imports.
