For the past three years, Born Free has celebrated World Book Day with schools up and down the country, running live webinars alongside popular authors to inspire thousands of children with tales about wildlife and nature.

This year’s World Book Day, Thursday 6th March, Born Free will be joined by award-winning children’s author, and Born Free Patron, Lauren St John. School pupils will have the exciting opportunity to hear tales of Lauren’s childhood (spent surrounded by animals on a farm and nature reserve in Zimbabwe), what inspires her writing, and her amazing work supporting Born Free.

Pupils will also be able to send in their own questions, to be answered live by Lauren and the Born Free team. Don’t miss out on this unique and wonderful opportunity – schools and home-educators are invited to join us!

Lauren St John

As well as being the acclaimed author of the bestselling White Giraffe, Laura Marlin Mystery and One Dollar Horse series, plus stand-alone novels such as Wave Riders and Finding Wonder, Lauren is a passionate conservationist. She has accompanied Born Free on several international wildlife rescues, including three leopards from a zoo in Cyprus, and two dolphins from a dirty swimming pool in Turkey.

Each Born Fee rescue has had a profound impact on Lauren, and helped inspire her work as a writer. Tying in perfectly with our own charity’s philosophy, she believes passionately that each individual animal matters – from the tiniest insect to the largest whale. Every living creature deserves our compassion and respect.

Lauren is also the Founder of Authors4Oceans, a collective of illustrators and artists, on a mission to inspire children, teachers and parents to love nature and wildlife, as well as raising awareness about plastic pollution in our oceans. The organisation’s campaign also saw many publishers and bookstores change their policy around plastic book covers, as well as plastic cups and utensils in their coffee shops – a real win for the environment!

If you’re a teacher or home educator and would like your pupils to hear from Lauren herself, you can register or find out more information on our School Events page. We’re sure this will be an event you don’t want to miss!
