This April, we’ve teamed-up with the Green Match Fund to double your donations towards protecting wild tigers in India. For seven days, from the 18th to the 25th of April, Born Free supporters who donate towards our tiger conservation work can have their donations matched by the Green Match Fund. As part of The Big Give, the Green Match Fund aims to support a range of charities – including Born Free – which play a vital role in tackling pressing environmental issues.

We’ve set a target to raise £40,000 in a week for tigers and you can help us reach our goal. Your support will unlock the match-funding tigers need – so for every £10 you give, we will receive £20 to help tigers!

WHAT IS GREEN MATCH?

The Green Match / Big Give logoThe Green Match Fund is a fundraising event which takes place each April and is specifically designed to help environmentally-focused charities like Born Free, by doubling the donations made by supporters during the week of the event. It’s part of The Big Give, a platform which offers people the unique opportunity to double the difference they can make in the world for the causes close to their heart.

For a week each April, charities apply to be part of the Green Match Fund, and set a fundraising target for a specific area of work – this year we are raising money to help protect India’s tigers – and during the week, every donation towards Tigers in Crisis made by supporters will be doubled, up to the value of £40,000.

If the target is reached, donations will no longer be doubled but will still be greatly appreciated.

HOW WILL MY MONEY HELP TIGERS?

A tiger lying down in the forest

Tigers are in crisis. In the past 100 years, 95% of the world’s tigers have been wiped out, and now as few as 4,000 remain.

With ever-growing human populations and shrinking habitats, wild tigers are forced to live increasingly close to people, where they may attack livestock for food and retaliatory killings can occur. Tigers are also killed for their fur and for their bones, and the illegal market in body parts gives a dead tiger high value, meaning an ever-present threat from poachers.

But, there is hope – where we have been working in India, tiger numbers have doubled, and the country is now home to 75% of all wild tigers!

To survive they need connected forests. Central India has one of the largest areas of remaining viable habitat. Born Free works with a network of local partners to protect tigers and their forest homes, and supports local communities to reduce conflict and potential threats.
