Congratulations Leo!
Born Free’s Junior Ambassador Leo has been recognised for outstanding environmental work in his local community at the London Eco Champion Awards.

Leo is presented with his award by Alice Pleasant
Born Free is delighted to congratulate Junior Ambassador, 11-year-old Leo, for winning the Mini Warriors Award at the London Eco Champion Awards 2025, for supporting his school to set up and run their new wildlife garden, for the benefit of all.
The London Eco Champion Awards is an annual award, which was set up by London Clean Air Initiative and the Mayor of London. It recognises eco champions, from all walks of life, from adults and organisations to young individuals who are based in London and go above and beyond to protect their local environment.
Leo was nominated for the award by his school after helping to create space for nature in their grounds. Leo used a grant he received from an earlier award which he won, in the Action for Nature Awards, to help fund his school’s new wildlife garden, which will give nature a home, and provide a space where other students can spend time within nature. As well as helping the school through his grant, Leo went even further by sourcing and recycling offcuts of wood from arts venues across the city to create bird boxes with his classmates to put up in the wildlife garden. Such a selfless attitude towards others, including wildlife, certainly deserves recognition!
Leo is founder of Leo’s Animal Planet, an online platform he created when he was just seven years old with help from his incredibly supportive mum, Laurence. He uses his platform to raise the profile of endangered species and share amazing animal stories through fun, informative, child-friendly videos. The platform has helped Leo raise thousands of pounds for wildlife and environmental charities, including Born Free. Leo also uses his spare time to work in his local community – rewilding spaces, planting wildflower seeds and putting up bird boxes, whilst raising awareness of the importance of city wildlife amongst the community.
Another huge well-done Leo from everyone at Born Free for going above and beyond to bring about positive change for wild animals and the communities living alongside them here in the UK.
