Farewell safia

FAREWELL SAFIA

We are devastated to share the news that our beautiful lioness Safia recently passed away following a short illness.

Safia was a firm favourite at our Ensessa Kotteh Wildlife Rescue & Education Centre, in Ethiopia.

She was rescued by Born Free from a small town in Ethiopia where she was kept as a pet, alone and chained in a wooden shack. She had an old injury when she was rescued, leaving her with a slightly twisted paw. Safia came to Ensessa Kotteh in November 2009 and happily shared an enclosure with Dolo the lion.

Dr Chris Draper, Born Free’s Head of Animal Welfare & Captivity, said: “Safia had the worst possible start to her life, so we were so glad to be able to rescue her, with the generous help of our supporters, and give her a long and happy life at Ensessa Kotteh. She will always have a special place in our hearts.”
