Alda and Ginny: A year at Shamwari

It’s been a year since Alda and Ginny arrived at our Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa, but how did they settle in at their forever home?

A year ago, on International Leopard Day, Born Free gave two beautiful leopards a new life at our tranquil big cat sanctuary, in South Africa.

15-year-old mum Alda and her nine-year-old daughter Ginny had been rescued from dire conditions, at an illegal breeding centre in Poland. After years of Born Free helping navigate legal issues and complex paperwork, the two leopards safely made an incredible 8,000-mile journey from their halfway house in Belgium, to Shamwari Private Game Reserve.

As you can see from our new video, they are thriving, thanks to the expert care of our dedicated  team, and the generosity of Olsen Animal Trust, who support their lifetime care.
