Both lions and elephants are amazing mammals. Whose team are you on?

We love wild animals of all kinds at Born Free, but it’s ok
to have favourites! This summer we are asking...

are you Team Elephant 🐘 or Team Lion 🦁?

Both lions and elephants are vital to their African savannah home. They help keep their habitats healthy; elephants by spreading seeds in their dung, and lions by reducing the number of prey animals, who could easily eat away all the grass!

Lions and elephants are very caring animals who live in social groups, made up of related females and their young. Male lions protect the pride, whilst older male elephants live in herds with younger males, teaching them vital survival skills.

Statistics:

Both lions and elephants are amazing mammals. Whose team are you on?

Team Lion

Weight: 190kgs (same as 50 pet cats!)

Length: 2.1m (not including their tail)

Top speed: 50mph

Daily distance: Up to 12 miles

Lifespan: 15-20 years

Team Elephant

Weight: Up to 6,000kgs (same as 2 small cars!)

Height: Up to 4m

Top speed: 25mph

Daily distance: Up to 30 miles

Lifespan: 70 years

Regardless of which team you are on, lions and elephants both need our help!

They are losing their habitats to climate change, and elephants are also still being taken from the wild to be sent to zoos around the world! By using less energy at home and walking to school (to reduce your carbon footprint) and not visiting zoos, you can help to protect these incredible animals.

Step Up For Wildlife

It’s not too late if you want to walk to protect wildlife this summer holiday! Walk on the Wild Side as part of Team Elephant or Team Lion until the 31st of August; you can either fundraise for your walk or simply shout about it and why you are doing it. Ask a parent to help you sign up and take part to make a difference.
