The coronavirus pandemic is having a devastating impact on people’s lives, and the cost to the global economy will be astronomical.
The coronavirus that leads to the human disease covid-19 is believed to have spread to people from wild animals, in a wildlife market in China.
Global action to permanently curb the commercial trade will help to significantly reduce the risks of future infectious disease epidemics among both wildlife and people, and go some way to addressing the threat posed to individual animals and wider biodiversity through direct exploitation.
Please join us in calling for an end to the commercial exploitation of wild animals for trade, and for the closure of markets that trade in wild animals.
Send a pre-written email to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation, calling for an end to commercial live wild animal markets.
Sign the petition calling on the President of China, United Nations member state governments, and the Acting Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, to shut down wildlife markets.
Born Free is calling for a global ban on commercial wild animal markets. If you agree, please share our campaign with your family and friends.
Write a letter about our impact on the natural world and what you think the new ‘normal’ should look like. You can direct this to the government, WHO or even business leaders.
