We’re here every step of the way to help you reach your target so if there is anything else you need then please feel free to get in touch with Gemma Hook or Lizzie Moyse from our Choose a Challenge team.

A BIT ABOUT BORN FREE...

Born Free was founded by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna, who starred in the movie classic, Born Free (1966), together with their eldest son, Will. Born Free’s mission is to ensure that all wild animals, whether living in captivity or in the wild, are treated with compassion and respect and are able to live their lives according to their needs. Born Free opposes the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaigns to keep wildlife in the wild.

Born Free promotes Compassionate Conservation which strives to enhance the survival of threatened species in the wild and protect natural habitats while respecting the needs of and safeguarding the welfare of individual animals. Born Free seeks to have a positive impact on animals in the wild and protect their ecosystems in perpetuity, for their own intrinsic value and for the critical roles they play within the natural world.

YOUR PR GUIDE

Why not inform the regional press about your fundraising activities – you can tell local residents what you’re doing, encourage them to attend any events you’re holding, and ultimately try and increase donations. You have nothing to lose!

If you’re unsure about what to say then you can use this press release template – simply revise the sections in red accordingly, and then email it to local newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations (you can normally find their details online). Most universities will have their own radio stations or newspapers/forums etc so make sure you send it to them too and encourage other students to support you.

FYI the media receive a lot of press releases per day so it may be worth giving them a gentle email reminder about your story a few days after you’ve sent it in.
