Our new summer photography competition #ShootToThrill showcases your favourite wildlife photos, whilst helping to raise awareness of Born Free’s campaign against trophy and canned hunting.

Anyone with a camera is encouraged to get outside and photograph wildlife as it should
be – in the wild. Whether the focus is on an animal here in the UK, or a more exotic species snapped on an overseas trip, all photos should portray the beauty of freedom.

Photographers of all ages and levels of experience have until Monday 30th September 2019 to submit their photos. All entries will then be uploaded to Born Free’s Facebook page and the public invited to vote for the favourite to determine the winner.

The winner will receive a professional lesson with Born Free’s in-house photographer, a copy of their photograph presented on canvas and signed by actress Virginia McKenna OBE, Born Free's Co-Founder and Trustee, as well as a whole host of goodies from the Born Free shop

To submit a photograph, simply email it to by Monday 30th September confirming the location of where the picture was taken, along with the photographer’s name, age and contact details.

Terms and conditions apply. Please see full details below.

Born Free’s CEO Howard Jones explains:

“Hundreds of thousands of innocent animals have been murdered by trophy hunters in the last decade alone. Most hunters claim that the money they pay to the hunting outfitters helps wildlife conservation and local economy but it’s all a myth – in fact research shows that alternative activities such as photographic tourism can generate far more revenue from wildlife than trophy hunting.

“Animals belong in the wild, not on a wall. If it has to be the latter, then photography is surely the answer, hence we are launching this competition. Of course, we want people to be connected with wildlife, and experience the thrill and pure delight that can be enjoyed when watching animals in their natural state, but this should be through the lens of a camera and not down the barrel of a gun.

“We live in a world filled with natural beauty and I cannot wait to see the photographs that are submitted to us. From British wildlife right on our doorsteps to the kings and queens of the jungles, savannahs, deserts and the seas – wherever people are holidaying this summer there is wildlife just waiting to be admired and we want to share those precious memories on camera with the world.”
