SANDRO THE REAL TIGER KING HAS ARRIVED SAFE AND SOUND!

Rescued From A Squalid Zoo In Spain, Sandro Has Safely Reached His New Lifetime Sanctuary Home.

You’ll be delighted to hear Sandro, the stunning 15-year-old tiger, has safely arrived at his forever home in Italy. He has settled into his temporary enclosure, seems relaxed and happy, and has had something to eat and drink. “This is the BEST news!” exclaimed Born Free’s Co-Founder Virginia McKenna OBE. “I am so happy for him and grateful to the people who drove him safely there.”

Sandro had been living with our friends at Natuurhulpcentrum (NHC), a wildlife rescue centre in Belgium, where he was being carefully cared for while we worked to find him a lifetime home. Having calmly walked into his travel crate, the NHC team drove Sandro overland to Italy. “Such wonderful news,” said Born Free’s Executive President Will Travers OBE. “My thanks and admiration to Sandro’s transport and care team.”

More photos and an update on Sandro at his new home will follow.

With your help, Born Free has been raising funds to take Sandro to the wonderful sanctuary Centro Recupero Animali Selvaticidella Maremmain in northern Italy. We now urgently need to raise money to build him a lifetime enclosure and give him the loving expert care for life that he deserves.

How your gift could help:

  • £5 could buy health-enhancing vitamins
  • £14 could buy two day’s nutritious food
  • £195 could buy one week’s loving and expert care
  • £3,500 could build a climbing platform (tigers love a good view of their surroundings!)
  • £10,130 could look after Sandro for one year including food and care
  • £45,000 would fund Born Free’s contribution towards Sandro’s spacious new enclosure – 5,000m2 or over an acre in size!

Born in captivity, Sandro endured many years in a shocking barren cage in Ayamonte, a shoddy zoo in Spain. Thankfully, after years of Born Free campaigning with our Spanish colleagues, Ayamonte Zoo was closed down in 2019. With your help, he can now live the rest of his life free from harm in a spacious, natural enclosure at the Italian sanctuary.

Please help Born Free provide his lifetime care.
