Highlights include guided hikes, a boat safari to search for the famously elusive otters and other wildlife including minke whales and dolphins, and wild camping under the stars.
Follow in our Co-Founder, Virginia McKenna OBE’s footsteps to mark 50 years since she and her late husband Bill Travers MBE starred in the film Ring of Bright Water, based on the book by Gavin Maxwell, which told the story of an otter, Mij, and his relocation to the remote Isles.
"It is nearly 50 years ago that Bill and I were in the film based on Gavin Maxwell’s wonderful book Ring of Bright Water. His life on the west coast of Scotland with otters, his attachment to them and to that beautiful part of the world, never diminished.
"I had the great privilege, many years ago, of being invited to ‘restore’ the living room (known as the Long Room), in Gavin’s former home in the old lighthouse keeper’s cottage - which nestles on an island under the Skye Bridge. It was one of the most fascinating things I have ever done as, with help from some of his friends, old photos and the still-present atmosphere of the house and the island, I felt I was guided each step of the way.
"This promises to be a very special weekend – a wildlife experience like no other. Looking for otters and many other species of wildlife that are to be found on the west coast. It will be, I am sure, a very wonderful and personal adventure that will bring the atmosphere, the beauty and a very special memory of one man’s relationship with animals – into the hearts and minds of all who go."
