A special fundraising evening took place at Burton Albion Football Club on Saturday 24th November, to enable Born Free to continue to rescue and care for animals in need 

Over 200 guests attended Val Hackett and Mike Carey's 17th fundraising event in aid of Born Free!

The fun-packed evening included delicious food, and a warm welcome from staff at the venue. Special guests included Virginia McKenna, Auctioneer James Lewis, Anna-Louise Pickering, and Ben Robinson, Chairman of Burton Albion Football Club.

Highlights included the dancers from the Wendy Bates School of Dancing who performed "All That Jazz" and duet  Zak Taylor and Bronwyn Burden trained by Glenn Badham who performed to Born Free.

The charity auction was presided over by James Lewis, and featured items which had been generously donated including a print by celebrated artist Pollyanna Pickering, a handmade a lion pendant designed by Harriet Ward, a bespoke carved sculpture by Ruth Watson, a painting which had been done live on the night by Glenn Badham, and a walk-on part on Doc Martin, which had been donated by Martin Clunes.

The auction raised over £15K!

Born Free’s Events Manager, Joanne Bartholomew said: “Val and Mike care deeply about freedom for wildlife and this was obvious in every detail of the evening’s event.  We are truly grateful for their support.”
