Manyatta Primary School Update

Children planting seedlings

Funding from Kuoni has helped to support Manyatta Primary School near Mt Kenya.

With 341 pupils, Manyatta Primary School was in serious need of new classrooms to provide an advantageous learning space.  In addition to the two built in 2007, a further classroom block has now been built enabling the school to accommodate even more children.  In fact, class 8 KCPE candidates sat their vital examinations in the new rooms which provided a quiet, airy place for them to concentrate.

The project also included the revival of a tree nursery at the school.  The seeds which were bought and sown by the students were transferred to propagation bags and continue to grow well.  Once the trees planted get even stronger, they will help to reforest areas which have been decimated by firewood collection and deforestation.

Kuoni also support the leopard Kuma and  the  lioness Shada  at the Jean Byrd Centre in Shamwari.  Keep  up to date with their progress  in the Big Cat Diaries

Youth for Conservation

Kuoni sponsors the work of Youth for Conservation in Kenya which has included bushmeat investigations, public awareness activities and a number of snare removal operations in various parts of Kenya.

Global Friends

Kuoni School
Kuoni has provided wonderful support to our Global Friends project, providing African communities with vital resources

Kuoni Travel celebrated 100 years in travel with a luxurious journey by cruise ship from Cairo to Cape in October 2006, raising funds for Born Free’s Global Friends project.

Virginia McKenna and Will Travers made a surprise appearance onboard the MS Kasr Ibrim for ‘An Audience with Virginia McKenna’.  They gave an informative presentation on how the funds raised would benefit the African schools, communities and wildlife chosen to receive the funds.
