Lion Appeal

Is this the lions last roar?

Baby Bonobo Appeal

Donate to the care of Mireille the Bonobo

Stop the trade in wild animals

The illegal trade in wild animals is a big business and a big problem. This brutal industry is estimated to be worth billions of pounds each year, third only in value to weapons and drug trafficking.

Help our super animals

At Born Free our philosophy is simple. Every individual counts. Every animal is special and deserves a decent life. Whatever their circumstances, whatever their misfortune, we want to give each animal a chance - a chance to shine.

Cheetah cub help

This cub needs help and we are hoping you will assist... even if she can go back to the wild at some stage in the future, she will need care at the Born Free Rescue Centre in Ethiopia in the short to medium term. So, if you are willing to assist, please do considering making a donation.

Build a cub a home

Now we’ve got Kebri we need to build him a proper home. For the time being we’ve put this exuberant young lion into a small temporary pen at our Ensessakoteh rescue centre. But this is just a short-term solution. We need to create a spacious bush enclosure full of acacia trees, dense undergrowth in which to hide and sandy soil to roll in.

Stop Captive Animal Suffering in Rundown Zoos

This appeal is urgent. Every donation you make will help Born Free investigate neglect, expose cruelty and stop suffering. Together we will make animals’ lives more tolerable and close slum zoos. Every single pound you give will be spent wisely, for the maximum benefit of the animals that need us.

We urgently need funds to campaign for freedom and transform conditions. Your gift will help us lobby MEPs and other decision-makers, and push for solutions and stronger legislation. You will help us to rescue individuals from tiny cages and give them a life worth living. Now that really is a target worth aiming for!

Captive Dolphin Appeal

Help us stop captive dolphin exploitation.

Save the Tiger

Help Born Free save the tiger from cruel poachers.

Ethiopia Rescue

Born Free Foundation is developing a Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Education Centre, named 'Ensessakotteh' (meaning 'animal footprint') on a 77-hectare site in Ethiopia just 23km from Addis. Our project has the full support of Ethiopia’s President, His Excellency Girma Wolde-Giorgis, and we are working closely with the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority.

With your help Born Free will provide rehabilitation facilities and lifetime care for injured and orphaned animals as well as for wild animals confiscated from illegal trade and ownership, including species such as cheetahs, lions and primates. It is an ambitious project and the challenge is now on to raise the funds for animal care and Centre construction.

Autumn Appeal 09

Help Born Free bring about a mammoth change for elephants in distress around the world.

The Last Leopard Fund

Set up by children's author Lauren St John , The Last Leopard Fund will be dedicated to the Rescue, Protection and Long-Term Care of Threatened Species, with a special focus on leopards, one of the most hunted animals on Earth.

Elephant Anti-poaching Donation

Help us fund anti-poaching rangers in Africa

Global friends

‘Our Global Friends programme has always been very important to me. You may wonder why, as Born Free is a ‘wildlife’ charity, I should feel so strongly about communities and children.

My reasoning is that without respect and concern for the wild environment and the wild creatures that live there, the future for all living things becomes increasingly vulnerable.

'In the past little attention has been paid to local communities. Many of these people struggle to survive, as do the wild animals which live around them. It isn’t a 'them and us' situation - it is about the whole picture.

One of my dreams is that schools in the developed world would become 'Global Friends' with a Born Free supported school in Africa or Asia. Spreading understanding, exchanging thoughts, opening minds to new ideas - that must be a good news story. Giving a helping hand to all who face survival challenges and ensuring that the world’s amazing wild places and animals can continue to exist as nature intended'.

GrASP UNEP Donation

GRASP is a partnership of national governments, non-governmental organisations, wildlife treaties and UN agencies, led by UNEP and UNESCO. Its goal is to conserve viable populations of all the great apes in their national habitat. It works by supporting focussed planning processes, leveraging funding for field projects and raising the profile of great ape conservation among decision makers in all sectors. By uniting all these stakeholders it provides the first ever concerted approach to a major extinction crisis.

Ethiopia Rescue Centre

Born Free Foundation has developed a Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Education Centre, named 'Ensessakotteh' (meaning 'animal footprint') on a 77-hectare site just 23km from Addis. Our project has the full support of Ethiopia’s President, His Excellency Girma Wolde-Giorgis, and we are working closely with the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority.

With your help the Centre will provide spacious natural habitat enclosures and specialised care for life for many species such as the Cheetah cubs (right), as well as rehabilitation and release where possible. It is an ambitious project and the challenge is now on to continue raising funds.

This major development includes wildlife rescue facilities, a veterinary hospital and an education centre.

You can help Born Free help Dolo to live out the rest of his life feeling cool grass beneath his paws and sheltering beneath the shade of Acacia trees by donating today.

Bear Rescue

There are thousands of bears in dreadful captive conditions in Asia. Help us to provide alternative lifetime care facilities for these bears.

Zambia Primate Project

The Zambia Primate Project (ZPP) rescues and rehabilitates needy primates, integrating them into cohesive troops, teaching them all they need to know to adapt to their new lives out of captivity, and then releasing them back into the wild, where they belong. They are then closely monitored every step of the way by a loyal team living and working deep in the great African bush.

ZPP has been operating since 2002 and with the help of our supporters, will continue working hard to give primates back their lives and their freedom, for many, many years to come.

Carbon offsetting

Help Us build a rescue centre in Ethiopia. Born Free's 25th Anniversary appeal.
