Introduction
| Dugongs
(Dugong dugon) are gentle marine mammals found in shallow
coastal waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They are long-lived,
slow breeding animals which feed exclusively on seagrasses. |
| Dugongs
are the most endangered marine mammal of the
Western Indian Ocean. Once abundant in Tanzania, populations
have declined due to hunting, net captures and habitat degradation
and until recently they were believed to have disappeared from
Tanzania’s tropical waters |
