Dugong Conservation in Tanzania

Over the past four years, Sea Sense has conducted an awareness campaign among coastal fishers about the status and threats to dugongs. Additional activities include community action, capacity building and research. In 2003, a nationwide questionnaire survey was undertaken along the coast to assess the status and distribution of dugongs. The results suggested the existence of two small populations in the Rufiji-Kilwa-Mafia and Tanga regions.
