A vulture named Yatsey has reportedly been killed by lions at Colchester Zoo after flying onto their enclosure during a display.

Yatsey was flying during a bird display at the zoo when he landed on netting on top of the lions’ enclosure. Sadly, one of the lionesses snatched and mauled Yatsey. A statement from the zoo indicated that Yatsey had sustained a puncture wound which appeared treatable, but he sadly passed away from shock.

Born Free is saddened that zoos in the UK continue to use wild animals in performances under the guise of education, and that in this case the tragic loss of a much-loved animal was the result.
