Actress, model and Born Free patron, Danielle Lineker, recently returned from a once-in-a-lifetime trip with Born Free to the forests of central India, to learn more about efforts to support the population of wild tigers which remain critically low.

Prior to her visit, Danielle had been warned that she was unlikely to see any tigers at all during her three day stay at the Taj Bhagvan Hotel, which is located on the edge of Pench National Park, but was utterly amazed to encounter a family of tigers in their natural habitat on day two.

“When a tigress started to cross the road in front of us, taking her youngsters to the river to drink, it was the most incredible moment.” She said, adding: “The sun was coming up and they stayed around for a while, not bothered by us at all.”

Danielle, who is married to football legend and television presenter, Gary Lineker, and has been a patron for the last six years, met with Born Free’s Head of Conservation, Professor Claudio Sillero and Kishor Rithe of the Satpuda Tiger Landscape Project, who were able to explain more about work to protect local wildlife, and educate and assist villagers living in these rural communities, with the support of Land Rover and a number of other partners.

Danielle’s Grandfather moved from India to settle in Wales in the 1950s, so the trip, which she described as “Magical”, also enabled her to learn more about her own family heritage.

Purchase a copy of ‘Tracking the Tiger’ - a beautiful hardback book, full of stunning images of these majestic creatures, India’s Tiger Reserves, plus the remarkable wildlife native to the Indian subcontinent. Proceeds from the book will be used to support Born Free’s conservation work.
