Giraffes are amazing, long-legged animals! The Giraffe Family live in Kenya and Born Free helps to protect them. A male giraffe can grow up to 5.5m tall and their giant size means they can stretch to feed leaves from treetops, out of reach to smaller animals. Giraffes might look delicate but they are very strong and fast. They can kick very hard and run as fast as 50km per hour!
Born Free is working in Kenya to help protect the Giraffe Family. They are Rothschild giraffe - the rarest species of giraffe in the world. There are only a few hundred left in the wild and they are found in just four places in Kenya. By moving the giraffes to safe new homes Born Free is helping to ensure their survival.
The Ruko Wildlife Conservancy, on the shores of Lake Baringo in Kenya’s Rift Valley, is home to ‘relocated’ Rothchild giraffe. This huge area of savannah grassland gives these rare animals a brilliant new home. It has all the food and water that they need. Four rangers look after the Giraffe Family and check they are doing well.
