The latest newsletter from our Tanzanian partner Sea Sense highlights some of the excellent work that they have done in the first half of 2012 to help protect sea turtles.
Born Free has supported the organisation for over ten years, and seen then them grow from a small group working with local communities on Mafia island to a national and international force for turtle conservation. So far this year they have conducted Tanzania’s first satellite tagging programme for turtles, and are able to report on some of the results, as well as conducting important training for national park staff. But they still maintain close links with the coastal communities that live alongside the turtles, engaging them in conservation with anything from art projects to coconut grinding!
