Born Free Foundation - Keep Wildlife in the Wild

Celebrity Art ‘Wildworks’ Exhibition Reproductions

Following our 30th anniversary celebrity art auction and exhibition at The Clarendon Fine Art Gallery in London’s Mayfair we are delighted to be able to offer you the opportunity to purchase high-quality reproductions of the originals for yourself. This unique collection includes incredible pieces created by a number of well-known celebrities and artists including comedian Jim Moir (Vic Reeves), popular children’s book author Lauren St John and Nicky Philipps, who famously painted the Queen’s portrait and HRH Prince William and Prince Harry, each depicting what ‘Born Free’ means to them.

All reproductions have been created by our partner Valentine Art Reproductions and are being sold as part of a strictly limited and certified worldwide edition of just 75, with 65% of the profits from the sale of the reproductions being donated by Valentine Art to Born Free.

The Valentine Art process should not be confused with conventional art prints. Where the medium used for the original is in oil, the prints are hand finished and three dimensional, with the result looking and feeling like the original, complete with precise and accurate brushstrokes. The process is recommended by Christies of London, and is increasingly used for insurance and security reasons, when an original is sold, or just for copies where there is one original and several members of the same family want to enjoy perfect reproductions of their own.

About the Artists

Nicky Philipps is best known for her contemporary portraits, having famously painted the first double portrait of HRH Princes William and Harry in 2010 followed by a commission to paint Her Majesty The Queen in 2012. Nicky is also a keen painter of still life and landscapes, drawing inspiration from her love of nature and the outdoors.

Comedian, Actor and Artist, Jim Moir (better known as Vic Reeves), is famous for his surreal sense of humour, with TV credits including: The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer; Shooting Stars; 8 Out of 10 Cats; and Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased). Jim has become renowned for his unique artwork, influenced by the surrealist movement, which has been exhibited to widespread critical acclaim at venues including the Royal Academy. A proud and active patron of the Born Free Foundation, and a life-long wildlife lover, Jim recently flew to South Africa along with his wife Nancy and two daughters, to assist a team of wildlife professionals in moving three rescued leopards to their new enclosure, which he described as: “An incredible experience."

Celebrated wildlife artist Pollyanna Pickering is recognised as one of the most published artists working in Britain today. She has won over thirty international awards for her artwork, and in 2008 she received an honorary degree from the University of Derby in recognition of her achievements.  Pollyanna is passionate about wildlife and equally passionate about accurately interpreting her subjects. She is a champion of environmental conservation, both on the national and international stage, and is an indefatigable campaigner for the welfare of endangered, sick and vulnerable creatures.  She has been a patron of the Born Free Foundation for many years and has worked on a number of charity fundraising events.

Well-known popular broadcaster and writer Anneka Rice has supported Born Free’s work for many years. BBC trained, she has presented over 30 different series for the BBC, ITV and C4, as well as working as a journalist and newsreader in Hong Kong. She is best known in the UK for her award-winning series 'Treasure Hunt and Challenge Anneka. She has supported us since 1992 when Challenge Anneka helped create a home in Dorset for chimps rescued from Spain and then three years later a home for rescued lions. In 2008 Anneka hosted Born Free's Big Cat Evening at the Royal Geographic Society. Anneka is also a talented artist, having spent five years studying painting at Chelsea College of Art and we are delighted that she has produced such wonderful paintings in aid of our work.

Josie Russell is a textile artist based in North Wales. Her deep-rooted interest in arts and crafts began when she was very young, as did her love of animals. Josie is also concerned about ecological issues and strives to create beautiful, vibrant and inspirational pieces, which have a minimal impact on the environment. She says: “I have had the honour of campaigning on behalf of Born Free, and the privilege of seeing their amazing work firsthand. I am a massive advocate of their work, and it was my pleasure to create this piece. Born Free is a fantastic organisation and has helped so many voiceless animals in need.”

Lauren St John grew up on a farm and game reserve in Zimbabwe, Africa, where she painted murals on every outbuilding and hundreds of horse pictures. After winning the National Junior Painting prize at 16, she spent a few weeks at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town before spontaneously moving to the UK to become a pop singer or veterinary nurse. In fact, she ended up becoming golf correspondent to The Sunday Times and, later, an award-winning children’s author. Her White Giraffe and One Dollar Horse series are international bestsellers, while Dead Man’s Cove won the 2011 Blue Peter Book of the Year Award. She has also written books for adults, and in between has continued to paint, most recently showing at the Village West Gallery in New Jersey in November 2014. The Cornish landscape around St Ives and her passion for conservation are a constant inspiration.

Well known presenter and broadcaster Anthea Turner’s highly successful television career has spanned almost thirty years, and has included hosting some of the UK’s most popular shows including Top of the Pops; Blue Peter and GMTV, plus many more. A devoted animal lover, Anthea was delighted to be a panellist for ‘The British Animal Honours 2013’, celebrating Britain’s most extraordinary animals and the people who dedicate their lives to them.
Anthea has been a supporter of the Born Free Foundation from the outset.

Journalist, Television presenter and animal rights campaigner, Wendy Turner Webster found fame as presenter of popular Channel 4 series ‘Pet Rescue’, which ran for seven years. She has since dedicated much of her career to highlighting animal welfare issues. Wendy does not eat or wear animal products and in addition to being a Patron of the Born Free Foundation, is also Patron of the Vegan Society and the Vegetarian Society. She is also Patron of UK-based Chancepixies Animal Rescue, which helps dogs in need.
