..and after Born Free

Menelik was just a few weeks old when he was found tied up by string in a shop in Ethiopia.  Sickly and emaciated, the baby cheetah was so ill he could hardly stand.  Luckily he was rescued and nursed back to health by Born Free at a temporary rescue centre.  But a wonderful new home soon awaits him at Born Free’s Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Education Centre.  Here he’ll share a large, natural habitat home with another rescued male cheetah, Sheba.

Named after a famous Ethiopian Emperor, today Menelik is very affectionate but a real handful!  He purrs very loudly and loves to ‘fight’ with his shredded blanket.  Like an overgrown kitten this young cheetah wants to play with everything, especially people’s trousers.  He has several toys including a football and baseball, but his favourites are a dog toy made of a rope with a rubber ball attached and a bottle cleaning brush (!) which he spends hours tossing in the air or carrying in his mouth.

Adopters are urgently needed to fund Menelik’s daily food and care.
