Born Free Foundation - Keep Wildlife in the Wild

Wyreside Hall charity event

The very first Wyreside Hall charity event was held this weekend in aid of Born Free and Animal Care based in Lancaster.

To greet guests there was a very special guard of honour made by some of the beautiful rescue dogs and their carers! All the dogs are needing homes.

Hosts and wonderful supporters Romy and Steve Hinde invited guests to hear about both charities work.  Introductions were made by Animal Care’s Chairperson, Sarah Murphy and, later, Virginia McKenna gave a short talk.

Although the Hall has not yet been fully restored it is already stunning and we can’t wait to see it when it is finished.  The building will be a hotel, surrounded by lovely countryside for the wild animals to live in.  There are also five little dog-friendly cottages – one called Elsa!

A delicious vegetarian meal was served followed by the prize giving to local children who won this year’s animal writing competition.

1st prize: Cathan Giles for “Bens New Home”

2nd prize: Eva Bullock for “My Hens”

3rd prize: Chelsea Good for “A Tail of 2 Kittens”

Winners and runners up received goody bags and vouchers for their schools to spend on something relating to, and benefitting, wildlife.

Entertainment throughout the evening including a solo by Donna, touchingly singing Born Free, Gospel singers and a disco.
