Why: A simple conversation with his mum! One day she said "Don't ever have regrets, look after those you love, but live your life." Bruce arrived at St Christopher's Hospice to show his mum his leather 'power ranger' suit, with his new Suzuki GSX-R 600 outside. His mum looked him straight in the eye and with her voice weak, frail and fragile, she whispered, "you'll do it" and Bruce promised her he would. His mum died 6 days later and is dearly missed by Bruce.
The Project: In October 2012, Bruce Smart will be embarking on the charity event of a lifetime. He will be riding his motorbike around the world to raise funds & awareness for selected charities including Born Free. En-route he hopes to visit some of Born Free's projects, discovering the work they carry out, and help out where he can. Bruce currently is a serving police officer and has worked 10 years for the Metropolitan Police Service. He was inspired by his late mother to do the trip when she said to him "Don't ever have any regrets, look after those you love, but live your life." Bruce aims to raise £1m for 4 charities, riding 100,000 miles! What an amazing person.
Bruce is paying for his trip from corporate sponsorship. None of the funds raised by public donations will be used by him on his journey. So if you sponsor him here - (http://www.justgiving.com/teapotone-born) your sponsor money will come directly to Born Free.
