Students from Downlands Community School in Hassocks, West Sussex, have presented the Born Free Foundation with a cheque for £1,500 towards its work to improve the lives of wild animals in captivity in Europe. Presented to Born Free Foundation co-founder and trustee, Virginia McKenna OBE and Senior Operations Officer, Daniel Turner, the money was raised following the school’s awareness-raising campaign about The EU Zoo Inquiry 2011 and recent trip to meet policymakers and Members of the European Parliament in Brussels. Virginia McKenna commented: “The students of Downlands Community School are truly inspiring."
