Born Free Foundation - Keep Wildlife in the Wild

UN Year of Biodiversity

2010 has been declared the ‘International Year of Biodiversity’ (IYB) by the United Nations to help raise greater awareness of the importance of nature’s rich and diverse forms of life.  Saving and protecting life on earth is one of the core aspects of the Born Free Foundation’s mission and we fully support this initiative which focuses on the impact of humans on the world’s biodiversity.  The IYB stresses the need to preserve living ecosystems that provide essential products and services on which human and all other life depend; and, perhaps most importantly, the campaign draws attention to the accelerating rate of loss of the earth's biodiversity.

This special year is your chance to go the extra mile and make your pledge to help preserve the World’s Biodiversity.

Thousands of animals and plants are in danger of becoming extinct and humans can either stand aside and witness their demise or take steps to protect them.  Political leaders, industry, non-government organisations and the public can all play defining roles in reducing their impact on the natural world and its wildlife.  The Born Free Foundation has worked to protect living ecosystems and wildlife for the last 25 years, collaborating with politicians, industry, other NGOs* and the public.  2010 will be no different, Born Free will be, amongst many other activities: protecting the world's rarest canid, the Ethiopian wolf, from persecution and rabies outbreaks; working with communities in Central India to find more harmonious ways for people to live alongside wild tigers; supporting rangers in DRC** to protect Eastern Lowland gorillas from poachers; working with local people in Kenya, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and many other places, encouraging them to protect, conserve and respect wildlife and natural habitats.

What will you do in 2010 to reduce your impact on the world’s biodiversity?  Can you find a way to contribute to the better protection of the wild destinations your customers visit, invest in the preservation of an endangered species or reduce your company’s impact on natural resources?

The Born Free Foundation is here to help.  With projects across the world and a quarter of a century’s experience we can help you find ways to preserve natural habitats, protect endangered wildlife and improve the lives of local communities.  There will be something that’s the right fit for you and your business – just take the first step and contact Born Free.
