Baboons Escape at Paris zoo

Alarming news reaches us that 50 baboons managed to escape their enclosure at Vincennes Zoo in Paris, France.

Zoo visitors were reportedly evacuated from the zoo as a precaution, whilst keepers scrambled to try and recapture the animals. Police marksmen were apparently also on standby should the decision be made to shoot.

Thankfully all of the ‘escapees’ are now believed to have been safely rounded up. However, the situation could have ended very differently, as baboons are potentially very dangerous and can be aggressive, particularly if cornered or stressed.

Born Free is convinced that zoos are fundamentally unable to guarantee the safety of all animals and people, and that protocols to prevent and deal with escapes are woefully inadequate.
