To mark World Orca Day, Born Free Patron and former model and TV star, Lady Victoria Hervey, visited Westfield Stratford in London to support Born Free’s #TankFree campaign. The campaign gave shoppers across the country the chance to help “release” captive orcas back into the wild.

Stunning, life-size animations of orcas were displayed on five large digital screens around the UK which CGI and creative advertising experts had adapted to replicate the concrete tanks in which captive orcas are forced to live.

Lady Victoria said: “#TankFree is such a thought-provoking and powerful visual campaign. If only we could release all the orcas and dolphins from captivity, but it is great to see virtual orcas as symbols of what the future hopefully holds.”

Over the course of World Orca Day, supporters were invited to help “free” captive orcas from their virtual tanks by texting a donation to Born Free.

Each £5 donation received caused a captive orca to “jump” out of the screen and swim across other nearby digital posters to freedom. Its escape triggered the arrival of another captive orca, which swims into its virtual tank, triggering further donations.

#TankFree was created by the multi-award winning creative agency WCRS, and one of London’s leading visual effects companies The Mill. The digital screens were donated by UK media owner Ocean Outdoor.
