Born Free Foundation - Keep Wildlife in the Wild

ProFauna A Year in Review

ProFauna - Bali

Along with Humane Society International (Australia), Born Free has been funding the Bali Office of ProFauna Indonesia since 2006. ProFauna is an NGO whose activities mirror many aspects of Born Free’s work, dedicated to improving law enforcement to tackle the illegal trade in wildlife and to bringing about improvements in the conservation and welfare of many species in Indonesia.

Over the past year, the Bali Office has continue to engage in many of its staple activities: awareness raising campaigns, public demonstrations, investigations into the sea turtle trade as well as its regular monitoring of the large Satria wildlife market in the Denpasar capital.

One particular campaign addressed the consumption of wildlife such as macaques, pangolins, sea turtles and porcupines being served up in around 50 of Indonesia’s restaurants. A second major sea turtle beach conservation project has also been initiated.

It has also been a year of forging closer links with law enforcement authorities, securing further support among senior officials within relevant departments such as those tasked with responsibility for community development, policing and wildlife.

2013 looks set to be just as busy and challenging and Born Free wishes them the best of success.
