I can’t believe it is May already! Where is this year going to? And I can’t believe that I have been writing these blogs for a year now! Well you know what they say; time flies when you are having fun.
We had quite a few important groups come to visit our Education Centre last month. One of them was subject advisors and department heads from the South African Department of Education. This is quite huge for us as they came to see how our program can benefit schools and in which learning areas it will tie in. We have already received positive feedback from this as one of the advisors has made a booking for a group of principals and another has offered to do computer training with teachers from our Global Friends Schools.

The Forum for Environmental Education and Sustainability in the Eastern Cape (ECEES) have bi-monthly meetings and we hosted the meeting last month. Everyone was very impressed with our programme and all the good work Shamwari and Born Free do.
We also had a very special group of children come and visit us from the Reach for a Dream Foundation which is a non-profit organisation that fulfils the dreams of children with life threatening illnesses and diseases. They do group outings to our centre every year.

Schools are picking up steam again now that the school holidays are over and I will be meeting with them tomorrow to see what progress they have made so far. We decided to give formal recognition to the Eco-Club members at the school so I had badges made and I handed them over to the members of Sandisulwazi High School and Hendirk Kanise Combined School during their assemblies. The members were happy to receive their badges are they are wearing them every day with pride.

My ranger training programme is so near to completion I can’t believe it. They will be writing their exams in June. So we are going to be working very hard these next few weeks getting them ready! And then I start the whole process again with a new group of students. I have really enjoyed doing the training as I have made friends and they have given me a better insight into the community and their way of life.
