Born Free Foundation - Keep Wildlife in the Wild

The IUCN¹ Red List, which lists all rare species of animals, classes the painted dog as ‘endangered’.  This means the species ‘faces a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future’.  Born Free takes action in Zimbabwe to help protect the painted dog.  There are believed to be as few as 3,000 painted dogs remaining.
