
Depending on the species, the IUCN1 Red List of Threatened Species assigns varying categories to lemurs. The greater bamboo lemur (Prolemur simus) is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’, with a population of less than 250 mature individuals and a continuing decline of at least 25% over the next 9 years (one generation).
CITES2 STATUS
Many species including the greater bamboo lemur (Prolemur simus), western wooly lemur (Avahi occidentalis) and collared brown lemur (Eulemur collaris), are in Appendix I.
