Eastern Lowland Gorilla

Born Free takes action in Democratic Republic of Congo to protect the eastern lowland gorilla.  The IUCN¹ Red List, which assesses all species in terms of their extinction risk classes the eastern lowland gorilla as ‘Endangered’.  This means the species ‘faces a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future’. Since 1995 the population of eastern lowland gorillas has experienced a significant reduction, so that currently, the global population is thought to number no more than a few thousand.
