Born Free takes action in Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda to protect wild chimpanzees and care for orphans in sanctuaries. The IUCN1 Red List, which lists all rare species of animals, classes the chimpanzee as ‘endangered’. This means the species ‘faces a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future’.
