Save Amboseli Update - 21st October
2006
So another mention took place on
the 19th. This time the judge seemed more supportive than on
all previous occasions and it does look like our lawyers
previous indication that we're close to the turning point could
become a reality before the end of the year.
It was agreed that yet another mention be set for 17th Nov.
If the judge remains as serious as he seemed this time, then
this will be the final mention before the long awaited hearing.
He will be seeking to confirm that neither the Attourney General's
office nor the Olkejiado County Council have complied with the
courts orders and will apparently then agree to start
the hearing without their defence....which would lead to our
victory. The lawyers have therefore indicated that it would
be good for us all to be represented at this, hopefully the
last mention. I'll call EAWLS and YFC and the rest to see if
they can send reps.
However, as you know by now, its still hard to be completely
sure if things will proceed as we expect For now, and for our
supporters, we should perhaps repeat that with the order still
in place, Amboseli remains safe and that's the main thing. At
the same time our lawyers and the NGO team are all doing the
best they can despite the lack of compliance from the Government
and OCC. It strongly suggests that they have nothing to say
for themselves in defence of this action and are unable to come
out to justify the degazettement.
I hope this helps in putting out a balanced update for our
supporters.
