Schools for Kenya is partnering with the Born Free Foundation to help rural communities living in wildlife areas improve their school facilities and education.
Schools for Kenya is an organisation that raises funding for the construction of new primary and secondary schools for the neediest children in Kenya, targeting communities living in wildlife corridors where human/wildlife conflict occurs, in particular around Amboseli and Tsavo national parks. The communities around these parks experience severe human-wildlife conflicts resulting in retaliation against lions and other wild animals.
Through education, the community is slowly changing their perception and accepting the importance of coexisting with wildlife and the ways in which to do this. Schools for Kenya, through Born Free Foundation have, since 2007, supported several schools through provision of water, construction of classrooms, pit latrines, boarding houses, sports facilities and distribution of educational learning materials such as books and wall charts.
